Creating hope at HMP Addiewell

At HMP Addiewell, we believe everyone in our care deserves the chance to leave stronger, healthier, and ready for a better future.

Our HOPE strategy, shaped with input from staff, partners, and those we support, helps break down barriers to recovery and reintegration. It’s about turning belief into reality – giving people the confidence, skills, and support they need to thrive in the community or progress to the open estate.

Recovery support at HMP Addiewell

  • Peer support

Our prison recovery peer support workers use their own lived experience to inspire hope, offer guidance, and support others on their journey to recovery.

  • Pathways to recovery

Recovery groups in prison provide a safe and supportive space for individuals to share experiences, build coping skills, and work towards lasting positive change. Together with our partners, we offer recovery groups six days a week.

  • Naloxone

Our peer Naloxone champions provide vital training to people preparing for release, ensuring they leave prison equipped with the knowledge and skills to use naloxone and potentially save a life.
