HMP Addiewell
Our aim is to change lives for the better
Welcome to HMP Addiewell
In Sodexo Justice, we aim to change lives for the better by operating safe, decent, and secure prisons. We rehabilitate those in our care and provide purposeful activity, employment, education, and rehabilitation services. We support offenders to lead law-abiding lives in their community on release.
At HMP Addiewell, we run the full prison operations including Prison Custody Officers, integrated Facilities Management, and we provide rehabilitation services, resettlement programmes, offender behaviour programmes, education and skills development, vocational training, and workshops and industries.
We work in partnership with many different organisations and charities to improve the outcomes for those in our care. Our partners share our vision and help us to achieve our aim - to change lives for the better.

Rehabilitation and recovery

Jonathan French
Director, HMP Addiewell
Director's welcome
Opened in 2008, HMP Addiewell is Scotland’s only privately run prison. Our focus is on rehabilitation, safety, and supporting positive change.
We offer purposeful activity, education, and employment opportunities, along with specialist support for those overcoming substance misuse. Everyone—staff and prisoners alike—has a role to play in building a safer, more supportive environment.
Our staff are proud to make a difference, and our peer support programme, led by Insiders, helps new arrivals settle in and feel supported. Safety is always our top priority—for everyone who lives, works, or visits here.
We also work closely with community partners to help men build better futures and reduce reoffending.
I’m proud to lead a team that’s committed to changing lives for the better.
